Gisborne Boys’ High in top 32 for the nationals

Secondary school volleyball teams from Hawke’s Bay and Poverty Bay played a regional qualifying tournament in Gisborne last Friday and Saturday.

They were vying for the right to compete in the national tournament in Palmerston North at the end of this month.

Usually Gisborne teams have to travel to Hawke’s Bay for the regional qualifying tournament but this year the boys’ games were played at Gisborne Boys’ High School and the girls’ games were played at Gisborne Girls’ High.

Gisborne Boys’ High finished second behind Napier Boys’ High and qualified in the top 32 teams for the nationals.

Campion College boys finished fifth and will go to a satellite tournament in Auckland.

Gisborne Girls’ High are rebuilding their programme and improved in their games. They will go to the nationals to compete in the section for teams ranked from 33 to 64.

Boys’ High teacher in charge of volleyball Simon Murphy wanted to thank those who attended the games and supported the local teams.
