“This was certainly not the close match predicted,” netball commentator Sherrill Beale said.
“The students started slowly in the first 15 minutes but were more focused in the next three quarters, scoring double the goals of their opponents in the last three periods of play,” Beale said.
“They are certainly developing into a good team unit.”
Girls’ High coach Irene Takao said she was delighted with the result.
“I knew the girls had a result like that in them. It was only a matter of time before they delivered it.
“They have been touching on that sort of form for a while.”
Takao said she was really pleased with the shooting circle.
“Princess Tomoana shot really well at 94 percent for the whole game, and our new shooter Kaden Moeke also shot well and showed good maturity.
“I liked the way Kaden stood up in the game.”
She said their midcourters also went well.
“Hannah Veitch and Peyton Riri got good clean ball into the shooting circle.
“Our goal keep Naomi Alovili also made a big difference.”
The students’ outstanding second quarter was where Girls’ High got their game going.
“Our second quarter was beautiful,” Takao said.
“This result is exciting, because the girls have still got things to learn.”
The result adds weight to the outcome of Horouta’s next match.
Netball fans will look forward to the two premier games at the YMCA on Wednesday night. In the first game, at 6pm, Horouta take on Claydens Waikohu (1).
A close match can be expected as it is vital for both teams.
The main interest, though, lies in the second match, when YMP Sunshine Brewery meet old rivals Whangara Old Girls.
Those games will be previewed in The Herald tomorrow night.
