Netball commentator Sherrill Beale said the game was close at the start, but the students let a few errors creep in near the end of the first quarter.
“High School Old Girls pulled ahead and never relinquished the lead,” she said.
“They played as a team and drove the ball through the court at speed.
“The students worked hard but struggled with the zone defence, instead of woman on woman, and could not pull back the deficit.”
Katie Kirkpatrick at centre had a good game for High School Old Girls, “especially driving to the top of the goal circle and delivering some good ball into the shooters”.
Shooter Marcia Beale mixed up her movements, coming out of the circle, collecting lobs and driving the base line, and that helped to shake off the Girls’ High defenders.”
Beale said the other shooter, Lisa Basford, also helped by drawing the defenders away to open up the goal circle.
“She made it easier for the feeders to deliver the ball.
“At the other end, defender Arna Mastrovich played well and stopped some of the high lobs into Girls’ High shooter Te Oriwa Tuipulotu.”
The scoreline indicates how far the Girls’ High team have come in the past month to six weeks.
HSOG coach Tanya Owen said her team had to cut back on their error rate.
“We are still not playing the clinical type of netball that we can, so that’s our work-on,” she said.
Girls’ High coach Irene Takao said she was happy with the outcome.
“Our goal was not to have the same sort of result against HSOG as we did last time, and the girls played a lot better,” she said.
“They definitely stepped up and wanted to make it a tremendous game, and it was a very well contested match.”
