The Gisborne Giants superstock team retained their national championship title at Waikaraka Park in Auckland on Saturday night when they beat the Palmerston North Panthers in the final.

They bounced back from a qualifying-round loss to Hawke’s Bay to beat the Bay in the semifinals.

The team of Peter and Ethan Rees, James Kirk, Gary Davies and Jamie Hamilton were elated.

“That’s the third year in a row for the guys; it’s a great result,” team manager Scott Ross said.

It topped off a fantastic weekend for Gisborne Speedway Club drivers.
