Double Seekers’ Captain Gary Harding would be happy his team were able to earn two much-needed points this week with a 10-3 win against youngsters 2NZ Vikings.

While the score might indicate Cossy Double Seekers were on fire, the actual games told another story — six of the 13 sets went to a third game.

Cossy’s Kevin Farmer collected the win for the teams game but lost 2-0 to Tobias Campbell-Ratapu in a singles clash.

Teammates Dean Allen, Harding and Charlie Reiri were all pushed to the limit before they took 2-1 wins against Chalet McKean, Petra Waihi-Aspalter and Tama Irwin. Age differences in this group might be 30-plus years but Harding says it’s “all about having fun with the youngies”.

The same pressure continued in the pairs. Vikings’ Campbell-Ratapu and McKean had a 2-1 win against Farmer and Allen, and their Vikings teammates lost the remaining three pairs games by narrow margins.

Cossy led 7-2 at the turn for the reverse singles. Farmer beat Irwin 2-0, Harding beat McKean 2-1 and Reiri beat Campbell-Ratapu 2-1.

Vikings’ Waihi-Aspalter checked out with a 2-1 win against Cossy’s Allen.
