The fundraising tournament for seriously injured Poverty Bay-East Coast representative golfer Andrew Higham exceeded organisers’ expectations.

Held at the Poverty Bay course over the weekend, it raised $32,000 for the Higham whānau as Andrew continues his rehabilitation in Auckland after suffering multiple injuries in a car crash in Mahia in May.

“It was absolutely brilliant,” co-organiser and long-time PBEC representative team manager Keown said, adding his immense gratitude to all those who were involved. Around 200 players competed in the tournament — 26 of them on Saturday, the rest on Sunday — including Paraparaumu Beach Cullen, who carded 79 off a 1-handicap. Entry fees, donations, raffles, koha and an auction brought the total of $32,000.

The auction itself made $9400. Cullen, brought to Gisborne through Property Brokers, also took part in a question and answer session.
