FORMER Gisborne man David Solomann enjoyed the perfect debut at the Freyberg Masters national interprovincial in Auckland this morning.
Auckland-based Solomann, a member of the Waikohu and Wattle Downs courses, filled in for Poverty Bay-East Coast teammate Simon Jeune in round 3 of the over-40s matchplay tournament on the WhitfordPark course.
The Gisborne Boys' High School old boy played at No.5 and posted a 2 and 1 win over John Murray as PBEC lost 3½ to 1½ to Tasman.
Tony Akroyd, playing in his first Freyberg Masters, squared his match with Craig Newman at No.2 in the five-man side.
No.1 Anaru Reedy lost 2 and 1 to Glen Drummond, No.3 Pete Anderson was hammered 8 and 6 by Blair Bavin and No.4 Stefan Andreassen went down 2 and 1 to Michael Scholes.
Jeune was expected to be back for the afternoon round against North Harbour.
It was PBEC's third consecutive team loss, making it a steep climb if they are to achieve a top 10 finish after going into the tournament seeded 15th out of the 15 provinces.
