Federation Cup time for United

Gisborne United turn their attention to Central Football’s Federation Cup when they will play in-form Eskview United at Petane Park, Hawke’s Bay, tomorrow.

This knockout competition is open to any team in the Central Football region not taking part in the Chatham Cup.

Heavy Equipment Services Gisborne United lead the Pacific Premiership, while and red-hot Eskview have moved up to third.

Since mid-May, Eskview have played six, won five and lost one. That 4-2 loss was to Gisborne United.

Husband and wife Chris and Molly Adams — backbone members of Gisborne United — will coach and manage the 14-strong team travelling to Hawke’s Bay.

Their son Corey is player-coach of the top side but his parents are in charge for cup games.

United also welcome back goalscoring talisman Josh Adams, who was absent when United beat Napier City Rovers Reserves 6-2 last weekend.

The bad news for Gisborne United is that Corey Adams will not play in tomorrow’s match due to a red card in last Saturday’s match with City Rovers. He will serve a one-match ban.

Along with the usual members of the top side, United will welcome Gisborne Championship players Stu Cranswick and Aaron Graham into the squad.

Chris Adams will decide on his starting line-up on match day, as the fitness of midfielder Malcolm Marfell is in doubt following an ankle injury suffered during the week. Marfell will be given until just before kick-off to prove his fitness.

The match will start at 2pm.
