Members of all bowling clubs had an opportunity to play in the Abraham Plate Mixed Open Fours on Poverty Bay Bowling Club’s new artificial green.

On a beautiful sunny day, the winning team of John Kora (skip), Dawson Owen (director), Joan Gledhill (two) and Bruce Gledhill (lead) won all three games.

The second-placed team, who won two games, were Carol Hawes (s), Boon McIlroy (d), George Tamihana (2) and Bruce Ball (l).

Third place was decided on differentials and went to Joy Davis (s), Jeff Davis (d), Kym Brown (2) and Jean Patterson (l).

The tournament was sponsored by Kiri Te Kanawa Retirement Village, whose sales adviser, Jane Smith, presented prizes. She also presented two spot prizes of Ryman Healthcare “Home is where the Heart is” shopping bags, which were won by Win Baker and Kym Brown.

The Abraham Plate was presented to the Poverty Bay Women’s Bowling Club in 1986 before the male and female bowlers combined. Dawne Abraham has been in winning teams many times and competed in this tournament. She provided a prize for the “lucky losing team” and Lotto scratchies for some lucky players.
