Ends won triples decider

Three teams won all three of their games in Poverty Bay Bowling Club's mixed triples on Saturday, so the first three places were decided on ends won.

The team of Mark Bain (skip), Dave Hooper and Andrew Ball won the tournament, which was sponsored by Beetham Lifestyle Village.

Bain's team won 22 ends.

Second place went to Jeff Davis (s), Ron Seabrook and Diane Doyle, who won 18 ends.

Third were Murray Murton (s), Ray Young and Otto Louw, who won 16 ends.

The tournament drew a capacity field of 48 players from four of the Gisborne-East Coast clubs. Teams played three games of 90 minutes each.

The teams skipped by Marilyn Knowles and Bruce Ball both won two games, but the team of Knowles, Norma Miller and Ellen Valentine were placed fourth as they won more ends.

The tournament had been postponed a week due to bad weather, so players appreciated a magnificent Gisborne day.
