GISBORNE cyclist Sam Park won a silver medal in the Masters Track Cycling World Championships in Los Angeles this month. Competing in the 40-to-44-year 750-metre time trial, Park did a personal-best time (49.94 seconds, 0.46 of a second behind gold medallist Dario Zampieri of Italy).
He improved on the NewZealand age-group record (50.594s) he set at the World Masters Games at the Avantidrome in Cambridge, when the Games were held in New Zealand this year.
That time, in April, bettered the record that Park had set two weeks before at the track cycling nationals. The Masters Track Cycling World Championships in Los Angeles constitute the elite level for masters track cycling.
