OAKLEY Brown-Terekia won two gold medals at the Auckland International Judo Championships.

Gisborne Judo Club member Oakley won the junior boys’ over-45-kilogram division and the junior boys open.

Competition was tough at the Auckland event, with strong representation from Tahiti, New Caledonia and Australia.

Oakley had some challenging fights on the way to his titles, but each time he found a way to win.

Four members of the Gisborne club took part in the championships, and all won medals.

Quaydon Chaffey-Kora won the silver medal in the junior boys’ under-40kg division and bronze in the junior boys’ open.

Silver medals also went to Solomon O’Connor in the senior boys’ u32kg division, and Caleb Jones-King in the cadet men’s u81kg division.

The next competition for club members will be the New Zealand Judo Championships in Wellington at the end of September.

Results —

Junior boys

Quaydon Chaffey-Kora: silver in the under-40kg division; bronze in the open.

Oakley Brown-Terekia: gold in the over-45kg division; gold in the open.

Senior boys

Solomon O’Connor: silver in the u32kg division.
