PLAYERS from Brezz’n Sports Club featured in the junior and youth divisions of the Clubs New Zealand National Darts Tournament in Hamilton last weekend.

Tahuna Irwin retained the youth male title he won last year and Renata Leach headed a Brezz’n clean sweep in the junior boys’ division.

Junior boys runner-up Te Kotahi Kaio and third-equal placegetters Ihaka Kaio-Wynyard and Hunter Eyles are all Brezz’n members.

In the junior girls’ division, Brezz’n members Bray Reeves and Shannan Eyles were third-equal.

Irwin was also named in the New Zealand team to take part in the Australasian Dart Championships in Warilla in October. Also over there will be Irwin’s Brezz’n clubmate Erik Pu, who was named No.1 in the New Zealand youth development team.

In the plate round, Brezz’n men’s pair Tahuna Irwin and Hunter Eyles reached the semifinals, where they were defeated by Monte Tuhua and Deon Toki.

In the women’s singles plate round, Brezz’n members Tiana Kauika and Andrea Griffiths made the quarterfinals.

Brezz’n players Jono Griffiths and Tahuna Irwin both made the top 16 in the men’s singles, out of over 280 competitors.

In the men’s singles plate round, junior player Mythias Reeves was the last Brezz’n man standing, reaching the top 16.

Brezz’n won the trophy for best-dressed team at the chartered club nationals.

From Hamilton, 14 Brezz’n youth and junior players travelled to Hastings to represent Turanganui a Kiwa Darts Association at the New Zealand Darts Council junior and youth championships.

Junior boys, main round — Runner-up: Renata Leach. Semifinalist: Te Kotahi Kaio. Quarterfinalist: Hunter Eyles. Top 16: Ihaka Kaio-Wynyard.

Junior girls, main round — Top 13: Shannan Eyles. Consolation round, winner: Bray Reeves, Semifinalist: Manaia Kaio-Wynyard. Quarterfinalist: Jacinda Reeves.

Youth girls, main round — Quarterfinalist: Christina Tamihana. Top 16: Grace Rakei.

New Zealand Darts Council 2019 tournament team members from Turanganui a Kiwa: Renata Leach, Hunter Eyles, Te Kotahi Kaio, Ihaka Kaio-Wynyard, Shannan Eyles, Christina Tamihana, Grace Rakei, Mythias Reeves, Irie Eyles, Errol Tamihana.

First-180 badge: Bray Reeves.

Personality trophy: Renata Leach.

Most 180s: Errol Tamihana.

These young players won 18 medals at this competition. Two of the boys, Irie Eyles and Renata Leach, are still fundraising to travel to Gibraltar to represent New Zealand at the junior world darts championships in September.
