Defence will be key factor

HOCKEY fans are spoiled for choice this weekend with a series of outstanding games in prospect, particularly in the women’s divisions.

The weekend could not get off to a better start on the Hain Farming Turf tonight, with Amber Dental Gisborne Girls’ High School and Ngatapa in action in the women’s A Grade.

“That will be a good game,” Poverty Bay Hockey operations manager Louise Teneti said.

“They are both fit teams.

“I think it will go down to the wire.

“It will be a matter of who steps up at the right time and makes shooting opportunities count.”

Defence will be important for both teams.

“More so for Girls’ High when it comes to differential — goals scored for and against.”

The match starts at 6.30pm.

The women keep up the entertainment from 6pm tomorrow night, when last year’s women’s champions go head to head with this year’s standout team.

The match-up between YMP A and GMC Green promises to be a cracking game.

In the other match tomorrow night, Gisborne Boys’ High School take on YMP B.
