THE Magpies proved too good for their neighbours in the battle of the Bays at the Freyberg Masters men's golf interprovincial in New Plymouth this morning.
Hawke's Bay defeated Poverty Bay-East Coast 4½-½ at the over-40s matchplay tournament on the Ngamotu course. PBEC No.1 John Wyllie recorded his second halfof the week, squaring his match with Tony Sutherland.
No.2 Anaru Reedy's four-match winning run was ended 3 and 2 by Gary Campbell, No.3 Simon Jeune lost 1-down to Nick Radonich, No.4 Bruce Yates was trounced 6 and 5 by David Wilkinson and No.5 Dougal Watts went down 3 and 1 to Paul Beachen.
PBEC, yet to taste team success this week, faced North Harbour this afternoon.
