Jeff Davis skipped Chris Bunyan and Janice Allan to victory in Gisborne Bowling Club’s Reg Cook Optional Triples.

Second were Dayvinia Mills (skip), Peter Clay and Kevin Findson, and third were George Tamihana (skip), Gus McCabe and Jenny Evans.

Eight teams competed on a warm afternoon for an enjoyable day of lawn bowls, sponsored by Ryman Retirement Village.

The Traffords Trophy is contested by Gisborne Bowling Club members over the winter months when the weather allows. Players are drawn randomly into teams of triples and points accumulate over eight weeks.

This year five players were in the running right up to the last day, when Ron Robertson sneaked past another former Gisborne City footballer Charlie Ure to secure the win.

Eric Trafford, a former president of the Gisborne Bowling Club, his brother John, and cousins Maurice and Edgar were all members, and they donated the trophy many years ago.

Hugh Trafford, from the next generation, was on hand to present the trophy to the winner.
