Cup generating a buzz

There’s a buzz about Wednesday.

Two weeks in, rugby’s Courage Cup is generating excitement and enthusiasm amongst players, referees and supporters. Hundreds are turning out to these games.

Team Charlie Ngatai and cup holders Team Whetukamokamo Douglas both recorded wins yesterday.

Team Ngatai, showing good pace on the edges courtesy of the likes of Braith Ingram, edged Team Toa Halafihi 19-15 on Rectory No.1.

Team Whetu Douglas played strongly in their 39-24 victory over Team Hosea Gear on Rectory No.2 and Team O’Connor were in excellent form against Team Rico Gear, winning 34-12.

Team Whetu Douglas (six competition points) lead Teams Ngatai and O’Connor (five), Team Hosea Gear (four), and Teams Rico Gear and Halafihi (one).

The players of the day for Week 2 were Maui Kururangi (Team Whetu Douglas), Soloman O’Connor (Team Ngatai), Te Uenuku Patea-Taylor (Team O’Connor), Luke Bidois (Team Hosea Gear), Lukas Fry (Team Rico Gear) and Jack Fletcher (Team Halafihi).
