SPEEDWAY

The Professional Fleet Maintenance New Zealand Production Saloon Car Championships to be staged at Eastland Group Raceway on January 18 and 19 have so far attracted 43 entries.

“We’ve got them coming from all over the country, including about 15 from the South Island,” said Gisborne Speedway Club president Neil Gooch.

Qualifying for the championship finals will be held on the Friday night and the finals are on Saturday.

“The first national championships for that class were staged in Invercargill last year. The entries we’ve received show just how much interest there is in the event around the country,” Gooch said.

“It’s a thrill for our club to have such a big field and we may still get a few more.”

Plenty of Gisborne drivers, such as those pictured, will be in the running for the title.
