“We had a tough battle with YMP in the semifinal. And in the final, even though 27-14 sounds like a comfortable win, Ngatapa never stopped coming at us every time they had possession.
“They just kept running at us and it wasn’t until the two tries in the second half (to left wing Semisi Maumau and loosehead prop Dayne Williams, his second) that we had some breathing space.”
Enterprise Cars OBM led 14-9 at halftime. Halfback Reeftahn Brown-Terekia scored after a quick tap, and, for the second, Dayne Williams was driven over by his forwards.
First five-eighth Matt Brown converted both tries.
Harvey Transport Ngatapa’s first-half points came from three penalties kicked by No.10 Tom Holden.
Maumau stretched the gap with an unconverted try shortly after the restart, before Dayne Williams bagged his second five-pointer. This, too, was unconverted.
Ngatapa No.8 Antonio Barbarich-Waikari closed the gap with an unconverted try in the 67th minute.
However, OBM had the final say with a penalty in the 79th minute.
Although not on the scoresheet, OBM flanker Ben Akuhata-Brown (openside), Mike Williams and No.8 Daniel Taituha were outstanding.”
Ngatapa coach Heith Hawea congratulated OBM “on a game well played”.
“We started well in the first half but were unable to put the finishing touches on our plays,” Hawea said.
“We struggled to contain their huge forward pack, particularly at scrum time.
“We lacked patience and in the second half failed to take advantage of the elements to get us into better field position.”
