That team is largely unchanged, with only Ronnie Crone, who has left the district, missing from the successful 2015-16 line-up.
This year, Tanya Harrison joined Bobbie Beattie, Queenie Takurua, Adrienne Smiler, Carol Hawes, Lorna Reeve and Lesley McIntosh in their quest for more honours. Gisborne’s three other teams, all winners last year, were disappointing.
At Te Karaka, Gisborne’s star-studded division one men’s team could manage only third behind Kahutia and Te Karaka.
On Kahutia’s greens, Gisborne’s two division two teams also went down.
The men’s team were second, but a country mile behind Wairoa, who did not lose a game.
In the women’s second division, Gisborne, Wairoa and Poverty Bay were all tied on nine points at the end of play, with Poverty Bay edging Wairoa and Gisborne courtesy of a superior points differential.
Entry sheets are up at the clubhouse for those wanting to join in the Christmas festivities on December 19.
The annual Christmas triples will be followed by a barbecue. Play will start at the later-than-usual time of 1.30pm.
KAHUTIA
Fourteen teams took the green for the DB 8 point triples tournament on Sunday.
With the warmer weather finally here, players kept their liquid intake up.
It was most impressive seeing three young females playing together in the tournament.
It’s always refreshing to see youth playing the game and this trio held their own in a couple of games.
Good on Lucy Shanks (19 years old) and Paige Richter (13), both from the Kahutia club, and Angela Gibson-Samms (13), of the Gisborne club, for giving it a go.
DB rep Andrew Putman presented prizes to four teams.
With three teams on three wins and one draw, and two teams on three wins, a countback was required.
The eventual winners, with a superior differential of +26, were Dayvinia Mills, Mike Howes and Glenys Whiteman.
