More than 50 members and friends enjoyed a splendid roast Christmas dinner served in the lavishly decorated hall.

Open Fours Club Champs

Format was a two-life system with games of 15 ends or two hours in duration.

The two women’s teams who took part were evenly matched.

In the first game, Ora Peipi (skip), Val McGreevy, Jan Powell and Marion Jones took control to lead 14-4 after 13 ends.

Opponents Erin Sutherland (s), Joy Davis, Diane Christie and Kathy Carroll rallied on the last end to score a creditable five shots but it was too little too late ,and Peipi won 14-9.

Sutherland’s team took their momentum into the second game and it was locked at 12-all after the penultimate end.

With accurate drawing, Sutherland snatched the winning point for a 13-12 win to take the title to a deciding game.

In the final game, Peipi drew well ahead to lead 16-10 with one end to play.

Sutherland replicated the heroics of the first game with a flourish of five shots but it was not enough and Peipi clinched the title 16-15.

Three teams competed in the men’s event and after two rounds two remained.

In round 3, Barrie Denham (s), Richard Jones, Puna McRoberts, and Chris Valentine were flying high at 12-1 ahead at the halfway mark only for Steve Berezowski (s), Bruce Ball, Ian Carroll and Jeff Davis to suddenly discover their form.

They won the next six ends to draw level at 12-all with one end left, then collected three shots on the final end for a 15-12 win.

Team Berezowski continued their good play into the next game and led all the way for a 15-10 victory.

Both competitions were a joy to watch, with a high level of drawing from all players.

That’s it for this year. The club kicks off 2018 with the Graham Shield on Wednesday, January 3, and twilight play starts at 5.30pm on Thursday, January 4.
