Both youngsters were leads for their teams, and played outstanding bowls.
Ferris junior leapfrogged the junior ranks and made his first club championship a senior title.
With two lives intact, Ferris senior, Steve Goldsbury, Ricky Miller and Ferris jnr outlasted Boon McIlroy (skip), Charlie Ure, Maurice Taylor and Maurice Allan 21-12 in Sunday’s potential men’s final.
McIlroy was not giving up without a fight and, in all, nine ends were killed before the Ferris combo were able to claim victory.
It was a similar scenario in Round 3 on Saturday, when McIlroy’s clash with Mal Trowell (s), Arthur Hawes, Bruce Easton and Dennis Raggett was forced into an extra end and a 10-8 scoreline before McIlroy moved into the last two. Four ends were killed in the clash, accounting for the low score.
The old firm were at it again when Carol Hawes (s), Lorna Reeve, Anne Day and Lesley McIntosh bagged another club title at the expense of Ginny Sherriff (s), Beverly Davy, Kym Brown and Adrienne Torrie in Sunday’s potential women’s final.
Sherriff’s junior four made a strong start and led early but a costly mid-game lapse, when they dropped 13 points in three ends, ended their chances and Hawes won 21-12 without losing a life.
Both finalists took a life from Queenie Takurua (s), Barbara Gibson, Margot Willock and Angela Gibson-Sam to eliminate them on Saturday.
