GISBORNE rider Tess Clark had a great start to the year at the Central and Southern Hawke’s Bay Jumping Show at the Dannevirke A&P Showgrounds.

She was placed fourth on Sinatra in the Bayleys Real Estate FEI World Cup class.

She was also placed second in the 1.40-metre event earlier in the show.

Clark had an exciting win on Rick Shanks’s Cadbury in the 1.20m championship.

Trudi Mitchell and LC Autograph were fourth in the 1.30m.

Robert Steel, riding Mick Gardner’s Two Eye See, was first-equal in the Mitavite six-year-old series class.

Gisborne equestrians have a busy three weeks ahead.

The Waerenga o Kuri sports will be held on Saturday, the Wairoa A&P Show and Wairoa Jumping Show will be held from January 17 to 21, and the Larsen Sawmilling Showjumping Championships Premier Show will be held from January 26 to 28.

The Larsen show also features a transtasman young rider test.

Four of New Zealand’s top young riders will compete against four Australians on borrowed horses with jumps up to 1.20m.

The transtasman challenge is an annual event. Australia won it last year and New Zealand won in 2016.
