Gisborne-Mahia surfer Ricardo Christie’s World Surf League Championship Tour battle for survival continues. Christie was knocked out of the Quiksilver Pro France in the elimination round to place 33rd-equal.
American Conner Coffin dropped one of the waves of the competition in Christie’s heat — a 9.10 barrel which helped himto a 14.27 score and the heat win. Australian Wade Carmichael was second on 8.80 (5.03, 3.77) and Christie was third on 6.33 (3.83, 2.50).
Christie went into the ninth contest of the 11-event CT series in 31st position. The top 22 requalify for the 2020 tour. The next CT event is the MEO Rip Curl Portugal later this month.
