GISBORNE-Mahia surfer Ricardo Christie is chasing vital Qualifying Series points in the United States in his quest to return to world surfing’s premier tour.
Christie is in California for the QS 10,000-point US Open of Surfing at Huntington Beach.
He opens his account with a tough round 2 heatagainst Frenchmen Jeremy Flores and Charly Martin and French Polynesia’s Mihimana Braye.
Christie is sitting ninth on the QS rankings after an excellent fifth placing at the Ballito Pro in South Africa.
Another strong showing will consolidate his placing as he looks to seal a top 10 spot on the 2018 QS and reclaim a place on the World Championship Tour.
