GISBORNE surfer Saffi Vette will be hoping to earn Olympic qualification after travelling to El Salvador for the World Surfing Games.
There are seven slots for women from the last event to earn qualification before the games starting in two months.
In preparation, Vette had two new surfboards commissioned, which
she said represented her late father, Andy Vette, who passed away last year.
“I’m stoked to have a piece of him with me wherever I go. I surf for him now, and I dedicate everything I have earned to him and my mum for creating the opportunity for me to travel for surfing.”
Vette travelled with fellow competitor Paige Hareb to represent New Zealand, with Whangamata’s Ella Williams having already earned her Olympic qualification.
