Waikanae were commanding winners in the Gisborne/Tairawhiti senior surf lifesaving championships that concluded at Midway Beach yesterday.

They won the Ralph Morse Memorial Shield for the fourth year in a row with 355 points, followed by Midway on 111 and Wainui on 65.

Kaiaponi Farms Waikanae started with 129 points after the large-craft events last month and Dawson Building Midway had 32.

Riversun Wainui had no points from the first phase but were not far behind Midway on the main day of the champs.
