NETBALL

HIGH School Old Girls and Whangara Old Girls take centre stage in premier netball tomorrow in what’s set to be a highly competitive game.

The PAK’nSAVE senior game between Claydens Waikohu and Ritana Senior A also has potential.

Taste One HSOG and Whangara Old Girls take the Victoria Domain courts at 11am, with both teams unbeaten after three rounds.

“HSOG have started the season well and have played some very good netball to be sitting at the top of the table,” netball commentator Sherrill Beale said.

“Whangara will need to bring their top game if they want to stop the defending premiers’ run.

“I think this will be a competitive game with some very good netball skills on display.”

Whangara Old Girls play their first match of the day at 9am, against Horouta Gold.

“Whangara have three wins from three, but all of these wins have been by only five goals,” Beale said.

“They have been working their new players in and the team’s connections are developing.

“Horouta have yet to record a win, but they have played teams seeded above them.

“On paper, Whangara should take this win but don’t underestimate Horouta. If they can work together as a team for the full game, they could stop the Whangara flow.”

Another close contest looms at 10am when Claydens Waikohu take the court against Ritana Senior A from Lytton High School

“Waikohu have recorded only one win from three games so far, while Ritana Snr A have yet to win one,” Beale said.

“However, both of these teams had a very competitive five-goal loss to Whangara, so they will have some confidence in thinking they can take this out.

“I am expecting a close contest.”

In the final premier match of the day, at midday, YMP Sunshine Brewing play Gisborne Girls’ High School Senior A.

“YMP are another team who have started the season well and remain unbeaten,” Beale said.

“They have been working together well on attack and defence, so Girls’ High will need to do the same if they want to win this game.”

Senior teams will be on the courts from 9am with the last round of games taking the courts at midday.
