BONNIE Mason lowered the Campion College record for the Year 7 girls' 3000 metres by 3 minutes 25.27 seconds at the school's annual athletics meet.

Year 7 girls' athletics champion Mason ran the distance in 12m 55.96s.

The previous mark, 16m 21.23s, was set by Freya Bodin in 2019.

Of four records set in the 3000 metres at this year's meet, Mason's time was the second lowest.

Jamie Joblin set a record of 11m 36.24s in the senior boys' 3000m.

Hayley Lincoln set a time of 14m 7.52s in the senior girls' race.

Corrin Blair set a time of 15m 42.68s in the Year 7 boys' event.

Other records set at Campion's athletics meet this year were in the Year 8 girls' 200m, where Zeva Peard set a time of 30.87 seconds; the junior boys' high jump, where Owen Buchanan cleared 1.55 metres; and the intermediate girls' 1500m, where Lily Heuser set a time of 5m 47s.

Most of the events of the school's annual athletics meet were held nearly two weeks ago, but the last events were completed this week.

Athletic championship placings —

Year 7 girls: Bonnie Mason 1, Morgan Tamatea 2, Madeline Poulter 3.

Year 7 boys: Taj Potter 1, Luca Alexander 2, Jack Taylor 3.

Year 8 girls: Isabel Arthur 1, Zeva Peard 2, Miriam Cornfeld 3.

Year 8 boys: Owen Buchanan 1, Cameron Alexander 2, Connor Stark 3.

Junior girls: Danielle Blair 1, Maggie Mackintosh 2, Rebecca Kanz 3.

Junior boys: Owen Buchanan 1, Cameron Alexander 2, Phoenix Nickerson 3.

Intermediate girls: Lily Heuser 1, Olivia Briant 2, Freya Wilson 3.

Intermediate boys: Dane Berry 1, Hamish Swann 2, Yahni Brown 3.

Senior girls: Hayley Lincoln 1, Sofia Zame 2, Alesha Batisaresare 3.

Senior boys: Leo Maisey 1, Andre Riley 2, Isaiah Moran 3.
