TAIRAWHITI equestrians have had a busy time competing in events around the North Island.

Amelia Paull rode Envious Edition to first in the pony 1.2 metres class in the Showjumping Waikato Grand Prix this month.

They were also second in the pony 1.15m class at the Rotorua Spring Show, held at Taupo at the end of September.

At the Eastern Bay of Plenty showjumping and show hunter champs last month, Jaime De Costa and Simply Sassy were second in the pony mini prix.

Fraser Tombleson and Mea were third in the 1.35m championship and, with Eye See Ruby, Tombleson was third in the 1.1m.

Larina Dolman and Kiwi Lansing won the 1.25m class and she was third with Floriant DHU.

Gisborne riders competed at the Royal A & P Show at the Hawke’s Bay Showgrounds last month.

HSP Soe, ridden by Henrike Puketapu, was reserve champion riding horse.

Kirsty Harnett and Ngahiwi Prince were third in the handy hunter, third in ladies’ hunter, second in senior rider over fences, first in 95-centimetre showjumping and fourth in 1m showjumping.

Lily Beaufoy and Jakaranda were second in the 1.15m championship, fourth in the 1.1m class and second in the 1.05m showjumping.

Sam Brooks and Golden Willow Romeo had a successful time in the section for ponies under 128cm. They were second in the novice 0-2 wins, third in the novice 0-5 wins, second in the open and third in the paced and mannered. Sam also rode Kingslea Chat Up for a second placing in the novice saddle hunter 0-5 wins under 143cm.

Merran Hain and Untouchable were first in the handy hunter, first in hunter over fences, first in working hunter, first in ladies’ hunter over fences, and first in wire and brush. They were reserve champion working hunter and reserve champion in the hunter jump. In the show hunter section, they were first in the adult division, first in the 1m show hunter, first in the 1.1m high points show hunter and second in the amateur show hunter.

Ella Rouse and Ruby Tunes were second and fourth in the Category B show hunters.

In the pony club section, Zoe McNaught and Mr Riley were first for best turned out, second in the paced and mannered, second best combination, first in the best rider, second in the pair of ponies, third in the jumping and were named champion combination.

Jess McCann and Solitaire Solar Flare were champion combination in the round the ring hunter and were first in the 14-years-and-under division.

Harriet Savage and Capriola Storm were second in the paced and mannered saddle hunter and second in the open saddle hunter. They were also reserve champion saddle hunter.

Lisa Walker and Miss Serendipity were first novice working hunter 0-2 wins, first novice working hunter 0-5 wins, second in the working hunter not exceeding 163cm, second in hunter jumping, third in ladies’ hunter, third in open hunter, first in 1.1m show hunter and fourth in amateur show hunter.

Larina Dolman and Kiwi Lansing were first in the Pro Amateur Show Jumping Series class.

Jess Herries and Tane Mahuta were first in the pleasure riding.

Yasmin Coombe and Gone Girl were third in the 1m showjumping.

Briar Herries and her pony Valrosa Indian Summer came home with ribbons for first novice lead rein pony under 128cm, first lead rein pony most suitable for a beginner, second novice paced and mannered lead rein 0-5 wins, second dry mare or gelding section A Welsh, second best head purebred Welsh, second best presented purebred Welsh and third best movement purebred Welsh.

Isobel Bevitt and Buffalo Man picked up two first placings in their dressage. They also won three of their Category A show hunter events, including the high points series class. After Hawke’s Bay, Isobel travelled to Rotorua to compete in the BOP Show Hunter Spring Championships. They were placed third in the Category A high points.

Isobel also competed in the Waikato Show Hunter Group Spring Show at the national equestrian centre in Taupo. The combination won the Category A 60cm show hunter and were fourth in the handy hunter.

Merran Hain and Untouchable also competed at the Waikato show. They were second in the high points 1.1m, third in the open show hunter 1m and third in the amateur high points.
