Gisborne Speedway Club has three drivers in the New Zealand streetstock championship final at Paradise Valley in Rotorua tonight and for Brenden Gooch it means a chance to defend his national title.
Gooch, the current 1NZ, top-qualified last night, and Dave Hampton (88G) and Shaun Kingi (75G) join him inthe final.
His brother Cody (6G) had a run-off to make the final after the three qualifying heats, but missed out.
Sean Gooch (9G) missed out by one point on qualifying.
“Two flat tyres in one of the heats cost him,” said his father Neil.
“Both Cody and Sean get another chance to make the final when they race in the repechage tonight, so we could end up with five Gisborne cars in the final.
“Only two cars go through from the repechage, but Cody and Sean start from the front of the field, so that will help.”
