The degree of difficulty was not particularly high but judges gave good marks for enthusiasm, splash factor and entry for this effort from Kitini Taihuka during Gisborne Boys’ High School cross-country at Sponge Bay yesterday.
Over 500 students took part in the annual race on a soft and muddy course
over the Nolan property.
Lachie Falloon won the junior race (Jowett Cup) from Jimmy Sommerton and Paul Le Goff; Nick Proffit won the intermediate race (Cooper Cup) from Jamie Denton and Oscar Ruston; and the senior honours (Miller Cup) went to Adam Donaldson from Kyle Hannah and Sam Read.
Frisky bulls in the back paddocks forced the shortening of the senior and junior race distances, meaning records were safe for another year in these groups.
