“A GREAT day at the beach with the family” is the focus of The Boardroom Summer Slam surf competition tomorrow.

It will be held at northern Makorori Beach and is open to “all kids of all surfing abilities”. Entry is free.

A free surfing lesson will be available on the day, and the organisers will provide a surfboard for those who don’t have one. Helpers will be in the water to push children on to the waves, if required.

A sausage sizzle and flavoured milk will provide free food and drink, and spot prizes will be drawn.

The day will also cater for those with a competitive streak, with contests running in four divisions — surfers under 10, 11 to 12 years old, 13 to 14, and over 14.

Registrations will be taken on-site from 8.30am tomorrow, and surfing will start at 9am. Updates will be posted on the Lost Surfboards New Zealand Facebook page and broadcast on The Hits radio station.
