GISBORNE BMX Club’s new season has started. The next club night at the Lytton Road track is tonight. Sign-on is from 5.50pm and racing starts at 6pm. All riders are welcome.

Striders: Oliver Gough is getting pretty quick on his new micro mini bike. He and Damien Smith are the two speedsters starting at the half-track mark. Scott Pheasant did a good job on the strider track with five good motos.

5yrs and under: Toby Smith rode to five wins ahead of Alex Kelly and new rider Blake Carpendale.

6-7yrs: Brad O’Connell-Bacon had four wins from five motos. The other victory was claimed by Walker Wallis. This pair, though, were made to work hard by Sophie Barwick, who was was third overall. These three were often only a couple of bike lengths apart. Anna Spence showed plenty of speed as she led home William Johnston-Priest and Ada Lasenby. This trio also had several tight battles.

8-9yrs: Matt Hills sped to five wins but Aliyah Lardelli and Louie Sanders turned on five close races in their efforts to reel him in. Oliver Pheasant, who is starting to keep up with these speedsters, headed home Asha McKnight, Liam Spence and Jorja Rogers.

16yrs and over: Dylan Lardelli had a narrow round win against Ethan Rogers, followed by Joshua Lardelli, Krystal Smith, Jason Lasenby, Gemma Hills and Tim Smith.

18yrs and over: Bryce Kelly took the round honours in the “parents” class after a duel with Matt Smith at the front of the pack. Behind them, Kyla Newton went head to head with Stu Priest.
