YMP A and THC recorded emphatic victories in the men’s hockey on the LJ Hooker Turf at Harry Barker Reserve last night, as 19 goals were scored in the two games.

The top YMP team easily defeated Gisborne Boys’ High School 9-0.

“The YMP result was a Michael Bond benefit, with Michael netting five times last night,” said commentator Tony Scragg.

“Again a poor defensive pattern from the students cost them. Give them a month or so, though, and I believe they will get more competitive.”

As expected, THC rebounded from last week’s loss to thump YMP B 10-nil.

“It was 3-0 at halftime and some ill-discipline from YMP B led to them being reduced to nine players in the second half,” Scragg said.

“THC just walked all over them after that. The winners played an awesome passing game throughout the match.”

In the two women’s games tonight GMC Gold meet Ben Holden Fencing Ngatapa at 6pm, and at 7.30pm GMC Kowhai and YMP B step out on to the turf. Both matches are tipped to be tight affairs.

Two more games tomorrow afternoon will complete the round — LOB Masters and LOB A at 1pm, and at 4.30pm YMP A and YMP B in the women’s contest.

The scheduled 2.45pm game between Te Aowera and GMC Green will not take place. TA have defaulted to hand the result to GMC.
