RIVERINA went to the top of the Eastern League Division 2 football ladder with a 7-5 win against Wainui Demons in a top-of-the-table clash at Wainui on Saturday.
The Demons fell to third place, on goal difference, after Lytton’s 4-2 win against Thistle 26ers at Childers Road Reserve kept themfirmly in the title race.
At Nelson Park, Gisborne Boys’ High School (2), seventh on the league table, had a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Gisborne Vehicle Testing Bohemians, who are in fourth place, three points behind Demons.
Cellar dwellers Farmlands United and Ngatapa Silkies battled to a 1-1 draw at Anzac Park, as did mid-table companions Campion Thistle and Sunshine Brewery Wainui Sharks at Wainui.
In Division 3, Smash Palace Shockers maintained their lead at the top of the table by thrashing Three Rivers Bohemians 9-0 at Nelson Park.
