KARTING

Shanan Gooch had a busy night collecting awards at Eastland Kart Club’s prize-giving.

He won prizes for club championship, the Anzac championship, most points overall, Rotax top points, sportsmanship and most feature wins.

He is the club’s top driver at the moment and could remain so for a few years yet.

The prize-giving for Eastland Kart Club’s eighth season was held at the Cosmopolitan Club, and around 80 people turned up.

The club was started by the late Murray Michie.

Richard (Buck) Rogers was master of ceremonies for the prize-giving, and club vice-president Robin Trueman gave out the trophies.

Committee members were thanked for the work they had done.

A trophy for most supportive spectator was presented for the first time. It went to Kathleen Goldsmith, who had been turning up for many years, even in wet and cold weather.

May Gooch took photos that can be seen on the club’s Facebook page.

Dion Lund was thanked for bringing food and drink to the track.

The award for the most helpful club member went to Logan Irvine, who not only raced but would help out in a flag box and charge the radios as well.

Luca Vita won the junior KTs and will be in a Rotax next season.

He has been out once at a non-points meeting in this kart and looked as if he would be hard to beat.

Cool Jake Callaghan won the biggest class — the KTs — which is hard to do.

Buck Rogers and his wife Sharyn won the KT heavies and women’s class. Both have been members since Day 1.
