“This will be an exciting couple of nights to end our season,” club president Clyde McGrory said.
“We have 28 confirmed starters for the superstock component of the two nights, and they include all the Gisborne Giants, so racing in that class will be sensational.”
Among those lining up for the superstock racing are 1NZ Asher Rees, 2NZ Jason Long, 10G Peter Rees, 127G Ethan Rees, 5G Josh Prentice, 7G Scott Penn, 9G Jamie Hamilton, 75K Gavin Taniwha, 87B Thomas Stanaway, 98M Mark Costello, 99M Todd Hemingway, 144G Tim Ross, 331G James Kirk and 432G Mark Cromarty.
“On top of the big superstock field, we expect to have around 27 cars in the stockcar races, which will be spectacular,” McGrory said.
“A lot of the outside competitors have not had their normal amount of racing for the season, so they will be amped for it.”
The streetstock best pairs event has a classy look about it, too, with 6G Cody Gooch, 7B Al Howatson, 9G Sean Gooch, 10G Brenden Gooch, 18G Jared Ingoe, 23B Nigel Potter, 26B Thomas McEwan, 75G Shaun Kingi, 77G Brent Durston, 96G Matt Ireland and 177G Sammy Durston in the mix.
“The track is looking really good,” McGrory said.
“The rain we’ve had has helped with preparations, and the weather looks set to be on our side both nights.
“All in all, it’s going to be an awesome couple of nights.”
The club has given away 200 passes to primary schools in the city to encourage parents to take their children.
“The fireworks show on Saturday night will certainly end our season with a bang, lots of them actually, and we thank Trevor Jukes for making it possible,” McGrory said.
The gates to the speedway will open at 4.30pm tomorrow and the first race will start at 6pm.
