The Mount finished on 147 points to retain the Allan Gardner Trophy, followed by Mairangi Bay on 97.
“Across all areas we were strong and we had so many kids making finals and winning medals,” Hutchings said.
“It shows the depth in the club at the moment.”
He picked out sprinter Briana Irving for special praise.
“She was just a complete star and was named the outstanding competitor of the carnival by a selection panel.
“To get that recognition, Briana beat Mairangi Bay’s Danielle McKenzie, who finished with nine gold medals.
“She’s incredible, amazing!”
Hutchings said no one had ever won the individual beach sprint at under-16, u19 and open level at the same national championships.
“Overall I was just really proud of the kids,” Hutchings said.
“They have trained hard and it’s been a pleasure to be involved with them.”
Dawson Building Midway, led by open ironman winner Cory Taylor and u19 ironwoman winner Olivia Corrin, amassed 50 points to finish sixth-equal.
“We’re really happy with where we ended up,” head coach Matt Sutton said.
“There were some really good individual performances backed up by some really good team results.
“I have to pick out Olivia Corrin; she was amazing. She won all her individual events at under-19 level, and backed up in our teams, like the u19 ski relay team that won the gold.
“Cory Taylor too . . . for him to win his fourth ironman title, the third on the trot, is awesome.”
Sutton said Alex Bermingham also had a great nationals with a bronze medal in the “ever-competitive” u19 women’s ski.
“Ruben Bronlund raced well for his bronze medal in the u16 board final. It was an awesome paddle.”
Riversun Wainui came home with a couple of titles and scored 11 points to finish 19th out of 29 clubs that scored points at the championships.
Jack Keepa and Ava Smith were their title winners in the u16 surf and board races respectively.
“The performances of Jack and Ava to win their medals were unbelievably good,” head coach Dion Williams said.
“They showed they are starting to think and race well.
“That’s what I am most proud of, but I am also proud of the bunch of others who performed really well . . . like Jonty Evans, who got a bronze in the board rescue with Jack; Hannah King, who was fifth in the board race and u16 ironwoman; and Noah Collier, who also raced well.
“We were stoked with the effort from all our teams, like the junior canoe girls, who didn’t get medals but were well amongst it.”
