KahutiaSixteen teams lined up for the Heavy Equipment-sponsored Optional Triples for the Harold Powell Trophy last Wednesday.

Despite uncertain weather conditions, three rounds were completed.

Larry Kaloucava (skip), Marilyn Knowles and Lyn Trueman were the only team with three wins, and they took the trophy outright with six points and a +13 differential. Close behind were Kathy Carroll (s), Alan Thomas and Joe Wimutu, with two wins and a draw for five points and +16. A draw in their last game cost them as they had a better differential than Kaloucava.

Third place-getters Ted Tasker (s), Erin Sutherland and Ray Young also had five points, with a differential of +11. They were the team who drew with Carroll.

Mo Kapua (s), Joyce Wagner and Frank McLoughlin also had two wins and a draw, and finished fourth with five points and +10 after a 5-all draw with Murray Murton’s team in the last game.

There is a new leader in the club’s mid-week aggregate competition after last Thursday’s games. Taking advantage of Murray Murton’s absence, Charlie Ure is now on top with 33 points.

Second is Frank McLoughlin with 32 and Murton holds on to third with 30. Richard Mann is fourth on 28, three ahead of Ray Young.

Sixth-equal are Jock Smith and Alic Brown on 23, followed by Lyn Trueman and Brian Cairns on 22. Alistair Johnston makes up the top 10, one point behind Cairns and Trueman.

GisborneA good entry lined up for last Wednesday afternoon’s Classic Triples, but after three ends were completed, the skies opened up and the greens ponded quickly. Everyone received a refund of their entry fees and the event will be replayed after Christmas.
