Poverty BaySaturday’s closing day for the Poverty Bay Bowling Club’s summer season saw a great turnout of 46 players for the annual men v women tournament.
With an imbalance of one woman, Mike kindly became Michelle and swapped sides for the day to make the numbers even.
A three-game format saw the women ahead by two points after two rounds but a good comeback by the men to even things up, and a tie was declared. It was an enjoyable day for all.
The overall winning team were Val McGreevy, Marilyn Knowles and Robyn Arthur with three wins.
The afternoon then moved to a prize-giving ceremony for the season’s tournaments and championship events, which was attended by Gisborne East Coast centre president Robin Jefferson.
Awards were presented by club president Lex Kennedy, vice-president Jon Davis and secretary Val McGreevy.
Two special prizes were awarded for the most improved players. Robyn Arthur was the most improved first-year woman bowler and John Fricker the most improved junior men’s player.
President Kennedy then congratulated all players for their enthusiasm and participation at all club events, and those players who had won centre titles during the season.
