Third, with two wins and 12 ends won were Murray Murton (skip), Bruce Gledhill (two) and Don Oates (lead).
Two lucky draws were also held. Kahutia members are grateful for the enthusiastic support given by Poverty Bay bowlers.
Coming Up: October 26 (Monday of Labour Weekend) — Stonehaven-sponsored single-entry triples. Start: 12.30pm. Members of all clubs welcome.
Surprise winners for Poverty Bay Bowling Club’s mixed pairs 2-4-2 tournament were fifth-year player Norma Miller and second-year player John Andrews.
The tournament was open to other clubs and the 16 possible entries were quickly filled.
Mixed pairs is proving a popular bowls format this season.
Four 90-minute games were played.
The field included some very experienced bowlers, so Miller and Andrews were delighted to be the winners. They had three wins and a draw.
Six teams had three wins and, of those, three won 23 ends, so second and third places were decided on differentials.
Second place went to Kathryn Flaugere and Ron Seabrook, with a differential of plus 23, and third place went to Glenys Whiteman and Willy Murray, with a differential of plus 16.
Marilyn Knowles and Andrew Ball were fourth with a differential of plus 5.
Prizes were presented by Neil Gooch of tournament sponsor Mangapapa Garage.
