Gisborne

Selector Arthur Hawes has named the club teams for the four divisions of the Gisborne-East Coast qualifying rounds of the Bowls New Zealand interclub championships to be played on December 2 and 3.

The winners of each division go on to play in the regional finals in February in Palmerston North, where they will bid to qualify for the national finals to be held in early March at a venue yet to be named.

Gisborne’s Division 1 men’s team — Singles: Steve Goldsbury. Pairs: Bob McIlroy (skip) and July Hoepe. Fours: Arthur Hawes (s), Jamey Ferris, Malcolm Trowell and Robin Jefferson. Goldsbury will captain the team.

The women’s Division 1 team — Singles: Bobbie Beattie. Pairs: Queenie Takurua (s) and Adrienne Smiler. Fours: Carol Hawes (s), Lorna Reeve, Tanya Harrison and Lesley McIntosh. Reeve is captain.

Representing the club in the men’s Division 2 event are — Singles: Maurice Taylor. Pairs: Ricky Miller (s) and Mark Walker. Fours: David Beattie (s), Gus McCabe, Bruce Easton and Kahu Kerekere. McCabe will be captain.

The women’s Division 2 team — Singles: Beverly Davy. Pairs: Kay Goldsbury (s) and Ginny Sherriff. Fours: Anne Day (s), Kym Brown, Barbara Gibson and Adrienne Torrie. Davy is captain.

The Division 1 men’s event will be played at Te Karaka, the Division 1 women are at Poverty Bay and both Division 2 events are at Kahutia.

Bellerby Cup

The club’s marquee tournament, the Bellerby Cup for graded fours, will be played this Saturday. Entries close at 4pm tomorrow. Entry sheets are up at the three city clubs.
