KAHUTIA

A team entry graded fours tournament, sponsored by Electrinet, attracted 14 teams last Saturday, with good support from all local clubs.

The green was in excellent condition again, and pleasant weather with plenty of sunshine ensured that players had an enjoyable day.

The winners were Murray Murton (skip), Gary Tocker, Richard Mann and Ray Young, who were the only team to win all four of their matches.

Jeff and Joy Davis, Erin Sutherland and Eric Craill were second with three wins and a differential of plus-26.

Vern Marshall (s), George Vaotuua, Mo Kapua and Steve Jenkins finished third with three wins and +19, while Trevor and Dayvinia Mills, with Joyce and Neville Wagner also had three wins, and were fourth with a minus-1 differential.

The mid-week aggregate series has only four weeks to go, and competition is becoming intense.

After last Thursday’s play, Jock Smith leads with 89 points, and Charlie Ure is next on 86.

Frank McLoughlin has 82, Ray Young 80, Richard Mann 79 and last year’s winner, Murray Murton, has 78.

Kevin Bright, Alic Brown and Bill Scott could make the top four if they score maximum points over the next four weeks.

Entries are being taken for the inaugural Specsavers Optional Tournament on Saturday. This will be either fours or triples, depending on the number of entries, which close tomorrow.

The Liquorland Closing Day Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, May 14.

Bowlers from all clubs are invited to enter either or both of these tournaments.

GISBORNE

FOURTEEN teams last week contested a rotational triples, single-entry tournament sponsored by Harbourview Marine.

Maurice Allan (s), Diane Christie and Ginny Sherriff were the only team to win all three of their matches.

Five teams had two wins, and two of these had differentials of +5, while two more had +2.

After a countback of ends won, Jeff Davis (s), Dennis Raggett and Beverly Davy took second prize with +5 and 14 ends, while Carol Hawes (s), Bruce Smart and Dan Barr were third with +5 and 10 ends.

Fourth place went to Hugh Mackenzie (s), Joy Davis and Helen McIldowie, who had a +2 differential and won 12 ends, while Arthur Hawes (s), Erin Sutherland and John Fricker had +2, with nine ends.

Ian Carroll (s), Anne Day, and Peter Allan had 2 wins + 1.

Next Saturday is closing day for the season, and play will start at 12.30pm. Following the usual after-match drinks, a barbecue will be held from about 5.30pm.
