WHEN it comes to the battle for the Bill Edwards Tankard it seems home-green advantage counts for nothing.

In recent years the visitors have come out on top when Gisborne and Kahutia bowling clubs have clashed in the friendly annual contest.

This year was no exception and Kahutia gave Gisborne a good old-fashioned thumping when the two clubs met on Gisborne’s greens last week, winning 48½ to 21½.

The large field played a version of Bowls3Five, as seen on television in recent weeks.

The late Bill Edwards was a popular local publican and long-time bowler.

Junior championshipsTHE club junior mixed pairs and fours championships will be played on Saturday and Sunday along with the final of the open mixed pairs.

Entries for the junior events close on Thursday.

Christmas bowls and barbecueTHERE is time for one last knees-up before the Christmas break.

Members are reminded to get their names in for next Wednesday’s Christmas bowls and barbecue.
