Kahutia

Great weather continues for the latter part of the season at Kahutia Bowling Club’s greens.

The mufti apparel afternoon bowls tournaments are popular.

Last Wednesday, 48 bowlers entered the M E Jukes & Son Single-entry Triples Tournament.

Play was held up slightly as 10 late withdrawals made it difficult to rearrange the existing draw. The tournament committee of Joe Wimutu, Alic Brown and Harry Green are to be commended for the great work they are doing for the club.

Thanks go to the Gisborne and Poverty Bay bowling clubs for their supportive entries.

Three games of one hour were played, and two teams had three wins. Robin Jefferson’s team of Tony Dobson and June Kinder (lead) had a differential of plus 17, which was good enough to win them the tournament.

Emily Hongara’s team of Harry Jackson and Bruce Gledhill (lead) also had three wins. With a differential of plus 15, they were runners-up.

In third place were Ian Carroll (skip), Alf Land and Jim Stephens (lead).

Prizes went to fifth place, and a lucky draw was held.

Sponsor Trevor Jukes was on hand to present the prizes.

Diane and Don Oates provided fresh fruit and preserves for raffle prizes.
