Tairāwhiti captain Anaru Reedy is well on the way to repeating his 2024 heroics after completing his fourth win at the Freyberg Masters interprovincial golf tournament in Auckland today.

Reedy, playing at No 2 in the five-man team, has lost just one match heading into round 6 of the over-40s matchplay event on the Omaha Beach course.

Tairāwhiti were beaten 3½-1½ in round 5 by a Bay of Plenty team featuring two players well known to Gisborne golfers ... two-time Poverty Bay Open champion Mark Smith and Craig Van Der Nagel.

Reedy, who last year won six of his eight matches, recorded Tairāwhiti’s win - 5 and 3 over Jason McIntosh.

Number 4 Waka Donnelly came back to half with Steve Heberley.

Smith avenged his recent Poverty Bay Open quarter-final loss to David Solomann by beating the Tairāwhiti No 3 on the 17th, Tairāwhiti No 1 Jace Brown lost 5 and 3 to Dale Clarke and Van Der Nagel defeated Richard Apanui 5 and 3 in the battle of the No 5s.

The team loss dropped the bottom-seeded Tairāwhiti to 11th out of 15 provinces on the points table. They have 1½ team points and 9 individual wins.

Only one round was played today.
