Another Oligoi pennants win to Poverty Bay

POVERTY Bay added to their history of success in the Oligoi Jug men’s interclub pennants final on their home track on Sunday.

Poverty Bay defeated Te Puia Hot Springs in the final of the matchplay event, making it six interclub crowns on the trot.

The bottom of the order anchored their 6-3 win against the Springs in the 36-hole matchplay decider.

No.3 Nick Richardson defeated Jason Devery 4 and 3, while No.3 Glenn Morley beat Thomas Donovan 5 and 4.

After Te Puia No.2 William Brown comfortably accounted for Pete Anderson 7 and 6, it came down to the battle of the No.1s — Simon Jeune (PB) and Andrew Higham.

The match ended all-square, which gave Poverty Bay victory.

Morley was named player of the tournament in his first full series of pennants.

Patutahi finished third overall, while Electrinet Park (2) beat Tolaga Bay 5-3 in the playoff for fifth.
