“Kaiya had a pulled muscle in his chest before going but he really wanted to compete,” Callahan said.
“But after his performance on tramp we pulled him out of the double mini to avoid doing more damage.
“He’ll have one and a half weeks off before he starts training again, with the emphasis on the world champs.”
James van Aswegen, who had already qualified for the nationals, won a silver medal in the 12-and-13-year boys’ trampoline and bronze in the double mini (12-13yrs).
Florence was third in the 11-12yr double mini.
“I’m rapt for all those who have qualified for the nationals and have high hopes for them,” Callahan said.
“The Auckland champs were also Natalya Barber’s first as an elementary judge, which is all ages bar internationals. She did well.”
