Matt Schmelz with a 26.6kg kingfish

GISBORNE teenager Charlie Gregory landed a 222.55 kilogram blue marlin to win the major $10,000 prize for the crew of Renegade in the Gisborne Tatapouri Sports Fishing Club Liquorland Marlin and Tuna Tournament over the weekend.

It was third time lucky for club president Roger Faber’s boat Renegade, having taken second place twice and finally taking the first prize in the competition.

In the other species sections, Siua Afu won the albacore section with a 14.945kg fish caught off Hahau, Leon Lewis caught a 25.85kg spearfish off No Xcuse and Matt Schmelz won the kingfish section with a 26.65kg catch off Reel Dream.
